We caught up with the creator of such classics as Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert, to learn more about his next adventure Thimbleweed Park. Of course, we wanted to know, why he wanted to return to his roots.

"I love classic point & click adventures games, you know. Gary Winnick and I designed Maniac Mansion which is really kind of the first point & click adventure game. And we were just talking one day about how charming those games were and it just seems like a lot of that is lost and we wanted to go back and do another real classic point & click adventures games. So that's why we decided to a Kickstarter for Thimbleweed Park."

Maniac Mansion was the first project for LucasArts and he was very young. Now he's working on the spiritual successor Thimbleweed Park. We wanted to know, if there a difference between the young Ron Gilbert and the now older one?

"Well, yeah. I mean, obviously I'm not the same person, right. I've gone through adventure of life and I experienced a lot of things and stuff. I mean, I do worry, that maybe the younger Ron Gilbert was naive enough to just try weird stuff. And, you know, I think, anybody who's making movies, or writing or games or whatever, you get older and you get more expirience - you do tend to try weird things less. And I do worry about that a lot. And so I do kind of try to do a lot of weird things. Just so I can have a little bit of the young Ron Gilbert is still doing weird and crazy things. But, you know, who knows."

Gilbert also talked about his gaming habits after have quit playing World of Warcraft after six years of dedicated raiding. He also spoke of the need for challenging puzzles.

Thimbleweed Park is coming out in July 2016 for PC, Mac and Linux. It's coming to iOS, Android and Xbox One as well at some point.
