When asked why they are planning on releasing their new game first on Nintendo 3DS, Sigurgeirsson had this to say:

"We are choosing the Nintendo 3DS first, because we released SteamWorld Dig on the 3DS first and that release, that SKU of the game, turned us into what Image & Form is today. We're a fairly well known studio and before that we were largely unknown. And so it's very much thanks to the Nintendo 3DS community that we are who we are today. And so we really wanted to give it back, it sort of felt natural to do that. But it's also there are so few games I think that debut on the Nintendo 3DS and there are so many 'me too ports' coming out to the 3DS. Like 'okay, let's see how it goes on the 3DS'. And they are usually... they are often quite lame ports coming out for the 3DS. I think it's a fabulous, and it's a very unique game platform, so I just hope just more people try playing on the 3DS. We built SteamWorld Heist for the 3DS from the ground up so it's going to be pretty awesome I think."

Sigurgeirsson also talked about a possible SteamWorld Dig 2 and confirmed that plan on expanding the SteamWorld universe with more games.
