We caught up with Insomniac Games' Shaun McCabe to learn more about how the first chapter in the Ratchet & Clank saga is being re-imagined on PS4. Naturally it ties in with the upcoming feature film that's due out in cinemas next spring (April 29 premiere confirmed for the US, no date yet for the UK).

"From the beginning when the opportunity arose [to make a companion game for the feature film] we knew it was really special," says McCabe. "The movie tells Ratchet and Clank's origin story so what we thought made the most sense was to sort of re-imagine the PlayStation 2 classic. And really what we envisioned was this curated experience that it borrowed what was really special about the PlayStation 2 games, but then it added some of the best elements of the PlayStation 3 Future titles."

"And as things tend to go, at Insomniac at least, the game grew a lot over time and we ended up adding new segments, new story content, new weapons, weapon upgrade systems, there's new ship flying segments. There's so much new stuff that it really felt like a new game."
