We talked to executive producer Stephane Roy about the ongoing development of the eagerly anticipated Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. In particular we discussed how the studio are using the power of the current-gen consoles to improve on the last game in the series, Human Revolution.

"It's not a question of the visual effects are better and stuff like this," Roy explained, "the narrative aspect is really important for this game, for this franchise, and the game director, the narrative directors, they really like to tell a story without saying anything. They really want to, they really push the team that if you are in an environment, the environment will talk to you, will give you a story."

"So if you are in a room, and it's empty, you know a little bit anyway by looking, reading email and stuff like this. So with the next-gen it gave us the capacity, the possibility to fill the environment and push the immersion. So this is what it's giving us, it's not just a question of pushing more polygons, it's a question of immersion."

Mankind Divided is expected on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime next year. To watch the E3 gameplay reveal that was referenced in the interview, see the trailer attached below.
