That didn't take very long.

Only hours after Valve announced and launched the platform whereby modders can make money from their work, the first case of 'borrowed' assets has arisen. Destructoid reports that one of the nineteen mods available for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been pulled for this very reason.

The matter is regarding the fishing mod developed by modders Chesko and aqqh, who have used certain elements from developer Fore's New Idle mod. The mod in question was quickly removed from Steam Workshop, but of course not before some screenshots had been taken. Here's Chesko explaining to Fore:

"I would like to make it clear that I have been under a non-disclosure agreement for over a month, and was unable (not unwilling) to contact others.

I asked Valve spesifically about content that requires other content, and was told that if the download is separate and free, it was fair game. In the case of this mod, the animations are not required and the mod continues to work. However I will defer to Fore's decision, which will issue a refund to all subscribers.

Fore, I have sent you a PM. Let's talk there."

So apparently Chesko and aggh have been led astray and they're fixing the problem. There is, however, plenty of reasons to be concerned when the number of mods in Steam Workshop grows far beyond nineteen. Buyer beware.
