The Elder Scrolls Online for consoles won't fit on a Blu-ray

Additional 15GB download is mandatory as single disc 50GB capacity can't hold the MMORPG.

The Elder Scrolls Online dropped its subscription mode one month ago and is now almost ready to debut on consoles. Almost a year after its initial release date.

Now, no subscription doesn't exactly mean you can buy the game at your local retailer and then insert the disc back home and start playing, for it's been unveiled that a significant day-one download is required for the game to function: the full game just doesn't fit a single Blu-ray disc.

As the invite-only public beta started just today and includes the full game, official site (be sure to check your age many times if you're using Firefox) shared details on game client final size, in the process unveiling the new requirement:

"With the console beta just around the corner, we're sure everyone is interested to know the size of the game client in order to get your hard drives ready. ESOTU is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience. At the moment, the client will exceed a 50GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15GB."

The The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will launch for Xbox One and PS4 on June 9th, 2015.
