The more Valve patched new strange material into the first Portal, the more obvious it became that we could expect Portal 2 to be announced. And now it has. According to the very brief press statement, the game will be released this holiday and Valve's Doug Lombardi told Eurogamer that it's coming for the Xbox 360 and PC.

There's also been some leaked scans of an upcoming issue of Game Informer, which seem to confirm the presence of co-op in Portal 2 where Chell (the protagonist from the first game) team up with turrets and robots. The campaign will take place hundreds of years after the first game, will include a bunch of the different "GlaDOS personality cores" seen in a brief scene at the end of Portal, and new puzzle mechanics such as a tractor beam and various forms of paint that allow you to change the physical properties of a surface.

Crying in anticipation already? What if I link this video of Jonathan Coulton and Felicia Day singing Still Alive (the theme song from Portal) at PAX 2008? Crying now? I know I am.

REVIEW. Written by Rasmus Lund-Hansen (Gamereactor Denmark)

"Portal 2 managed to surpass my very high expectations of it and it's the perfect sequel to the classic Portal. It does everything right and doesn't take a single wrong step."
