We were joined by associate producer Erin Piepergerdes from Netherrealm Studios to talk about the mobile edition of Mortal Kombat X and how it ties in with the console version.

Piepergerdes describes is as "a custom-tailored Mortal Kombat experience that's specifically designed around the touch screen interface".

"You're going to see all of the fast, visceral combat experience that you've come to expect of Mortal Kombat as well as an overarching meta game where you're collecting a team. It's almost like a card battler."

"We pioneered cross-platform unlocks with our previous game Injustice: Gods Among Us," says Piepergerdes. "People really liked that, they embraced that as a feature so we wanted to bring that back, but make it a little bit larger here for Mortal Kombat X.

"The types of things players can actually unlock can really influence their gameplay. These are good, worthwhile rewards whether they're new characters or ways to upgrade your character's abilities or these sort of things. So there's some definite benefits to linking your console version of the game with your mobile game and getting these rewards."

Mortal Kombat X will hit PC, PS4 and Xbox One on April 14 and the mobile version should arrive around the same time frame.

"This marks a confident step forward for the fighting genre, but one that doesn't forget its roots."
