At their annual press conference in Warsaw, CD Projekt today unveiled details of their next title: Cyberpunk.

During the press conference CD Projekt talked about the success of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360. They talked about the overwhelming fan support for the game, as well has highlighting some of the scores given to the title by critics.

But what they were there to talk about was the future, not the past. The new game, developed by a second team at the studio made up of Witcher development veterans, is set in a futuristic cyber-punk world and is based on "The" Cyberpunk pen and paper RPG system created back in 1988 by Mike Pondsmith (who previously worked on video games including MechCommander 2, The Matrix Online, and Crimson Skies).

The game will be set in a "rich and futuristic world with ultra-modern technology, decadent and degenerated human society," promised studio co-founder Marcin Iwinski, decked out in a t-shirt emblazoned with a "Reality Redefined" slogan.

Both Iwinski and Pondsmith, who was in attendance and is working with the company to achieve the vision, repeatedly name checked the look and feel of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, as well as name-checking its source material's creator Philip K Dick, as well as celeberated cyberpunk author William Gibson - that this game would be a mix of "sci-fi and film noir", a "strange and interesting place but only seconds away from where we sit now."

The game will use the Advanced Red Engine, and the co-founder promised a "cutting edge looking" title with "high production values", exampling the work that went into The Witcher 2.

Continuing the trend of the studio's last project, Cyberpunk will be built for mature audiences, offering a "gripping, non-linear story" with advanced RPG mechanics and a gigantic arsenal of weapons, and include staples of the genre with mega corporations, booster hangs - "a world that's pretty much collapsed", according to Pondsmith.

Change comes from one source: you. "You have the tools: you are a one man or one woman army," he continued. "You make that happen." There will be multiple character classes, upgrades, implants and "cool hi-tech toys".

The studio showcased one new piece of art to go alongside the announcement. See it below, and as we have more details on the game, so will you.
