Patch 2.2 for Diablo III is well on its way (we told you about it recently - head here for more details), and part of the next update for Blizzard's action-RPG may well include some form of microtransactions.

Details are still sketchy, but following on from the subsequent response, community manager Brandy "Nevalistis" Camel has clarified the company's position in relation to the western market.

"While the above features will not apply to this region, players will still benefit from some of the quality of life perks tied to these additions, such as a streamlined UI for selecting cosmetic benefits like pets and Collector's Edition wings," explained Camel.

"We recognize that many players have expressed an interest in microtransactions being added to Diablo 3. While we may explore this model in some regions, we have no immediate plans to implement such purchases anytime soon for the Americas (nor European) region."

The wording leaves room for future flexibility, with "anytime soon" suggesting that Blizzard could roll out microtransactions in Europe and America at some point. The omission of Asia in this clarification also points to a possible appearance over there for the new Platinum currency, timed experience boosts, new cosmetic items, stash space and character slot expansions, features which Camel also confirmed on Battle.net.
