The success for Minecraft rages on and doesn't show any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Last Friday, the game developer Nathan Adams at Mojang tweeted: "There are currently over 998,000 people playing Minecraft right at this moment. It is not even remotely close to being a peak time."
And surely enough, just five minutes later he followed up hos own tweet and wrote: "I could have waited 5 minutes to say 1 million, but nobody would believe that. :D"
How much it climbed from there is unknown, but a million concurrent players is a lot. As we recently reported, Steam broke its own record by having 8,5 million concurrent players a few days after New Year. But that number includes all Steam games, with Dota 2 having the most and clocking in around 900,000 players - which means Minecraft easily beats it.
Around 50% of the Minecraft players are enjoying singleplayer, with the other half playing multiplayer according to Adams who followed up with a third tweet: "Lots of people kept saying "people only play Minecraft in multiplayer", well turns out almost exactly 50% of players are in SP at any moment."
