Many eyebrows were raised when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt once again suffered a delay, this time to May 19th, especially after developer CD Projekt Red had straight up promised there would be no more delays the last time they postponed the game.

Now, after having broken said promise, they have released a statement explaining the grounds for the decision, and it's hard to argue with the reasoning. Put simply the polish developer didn't want to be responsible for the next big game released in an unfinished state:

"The market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gen platforms, the company's Adam Kicinski told Polish press according to a translation by Eurogamer. "We know what we have to do, we just have to do it. We don't want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay."

It's pretty clear that they want to avoid their game ending up in the company of titles like Driveclub, Assassin's Creed: Unity and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and in light of the massive protests those gave have seen over clearly rushed launches it's hard to blame them. At the same time the pressure on a flawless release come spring time is more on now than ever.
