Yesterday was a historical day in China, as the country saw the first new console release in 14 years. The country banned gaming consoles in 2000, since it was believed they would potentially cause harm to the mental and physical development of children. The ban was lifted inSeptember.

And the launch seems to be a success (if anecdotal evidence is anything to go by), reports Kotaku. The original launch date (and party) was cancelled due to bad weather, but six days later Chinese gamers could finally get their hands on the Microsoft's new console. Although there were no new launch parties, one of Microsoft's retail partners organised a midnight launch of the console, and one store even had a Chinese pro gamer competing with the customers on the new Xbox.

Even though the Chinese can now legally enjoy the wonders of gaming, China's strict laws fill forbid the publishing of games that promote violence, drug use, gambling or obscenity. So there probably will not be a GTAV launch party in China in the near future.
