To battle the trend of gamers getting their hands on games before the launch date, mostly trough retailers sending out pre-purchased copies early, Destiny developer Bungie have been crystal clear since the very beginning. The servers powering the game, which are necessary for the game to function even in singleplayer, were not to go live before the launch day was all but upon us.
More specifically Bungie and Activision stated that the servers would go live at 12.00 GMT September 8th giving press (as well as those lucky enough to have a copy of their own) a mere day's head start on the action.
This plan was carried out promised, and Gamereactor can confirm that we are now playing the highly anticipated shared world shooter in its intended form.
If you have a copy of the game you could do the same, and perhaps meet us online. If not, stay tuned for our Destiny livestream today at 15.00 BST, and for our first impressions from the game in the days to come.
See you in the Crucible?
