Selling additional content for a game was always a nice extra for a publisher. But this business is getting more important every year. Analyst Doug Creutz of Cowen & Co. expects that Madden generates a revenue of $350 million, according to Bloomberg. Out of these it is expected that Ultimate Team will gross $50 million.
And Electronic Arts itself claims, that revenue from downloadable content for all its games may reach $1 billion this year. Important drivers are Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, NHL 15, Dragon Age: Inquisition and of course The Sims 4. And the company is still earning money with back catalog titles like Titanfall, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, EA Sports UFC, and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
