Building a game based on Little Red Riding Hood isn't as straight forward as it may sound and we stopped by Grin's booth at Gamescom to chat with founder Wim Wouters about the fairytale-inspired hack n' slash.

"We started off with the original Red Riding Hood stories and probably most of the other developers and stories do that too, cause it's a really old story," explains Wouters. "It started in Japan and in Spain - nobody really knows where it actually started, but it's like 4000 years old, something like that. We started with that as a base and it's much more gruesome, dramatic than the story we know today. And then we pull in other fairytales also we didn't stop where Red Riding Hood meets the wolf and saves grandma. We went further, that's actually where our real story starts."

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is currently in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign that's meant to finance adding magic to the gameplay system.

"We just launched last week, we been live for seven days. We got 60% of our budget. It's amazing. It's gone really well. Now we just need to finish the whole thing get the whole game backed so we can get the magic running..."

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is heading to an Early Access alpha next month with the full Steam release planned for a February release and a release on new-gen consoles the following quarter.
