Hearthstone "a great learning experience" for Blizzard

We caught up with senior game producer Yong Woo at Gamescom to learn more about Heartstone, reactions on Curse of Naxxramas, the rise of the game as an e-sport and what's next for the extremely popular digital card game.

"I'd like to say that Hearthstone has been a great learning experience for all of us on Team 5, the Hearthstone team," says Woo. "We didn't want to come into this saying 'oh, we know exactly what everybody wants and this is exactly how we want to do things'. With Naxxramas it was all about pushing the boundary of what's possible with a digital card game. Traditionally you would release kind of series of card packs, because that's basically the only thing that's practical to do when you're talking about a physical way to distribute cards. With Naxxramas we wanted to see look, we're a digital card game. How can we evolve the collectible card game genre? How can we do things differently?"

So after the Curse of Naxxramas, what's next for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft?

"Our next expansion is actually going to be a new set of card packs."
