An unofficial Minecraft convention has been cancelled, and organisers have vanished with more than $500k of ticket sales money.

The New York-based Mineorama was cancelled four days before it was due to start. As noted by Kotaku, the organisers then tweeted: ""PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT A SCAM," before adding: "It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that @mineorama has been postponed, stay tuned for updates."

Organiser Lou Gasco also posted on Twitter that financing had fallen though, promising to return with refund details. That never happened, and now the website is down, and the Twitter account has been taken over someone else (who's having a lot of fun by the looks of it). Kotaku contacted another organiser, Timothy Carroll, who responded with a "no comment" before hanging up on the call.
