In what should be a troubling development for Activision, analysts at Macquarie Equities (via Gamasutra) report that sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are 4.2 per cent behind sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops at the same time last year. Modern Warfare 3 opened up stronger than Black Ops and the recent trend is seen as a sign that casuals are starting to move on to something else.

Naturally it's still too early to call "Guitar Hero" on this, and in fact Activision are likely to have more revenue coming in from Modern Warfare 3 thanks to Call of Duty: Elite and a massive line of DLC for the game.
