Its visuals didn't reach the fidelity promised by the groundbreaking gameplay demo showed at the game's annonuncement back at E3 in 2012. Still, Ubisoft's open world hacking game Watch Dogs has already proven itself as a huge success for the company.

It was their fastest selling new IP ever, and yesterday Ubisoft President Yves Guillemot had the pleasure of revealing the total sales thus far:

"Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years", Guillemot explained.

The number of sold copies has passed 8 million, and in combination with other sucessful games such as Child of Light, Valiant Hearts: The Great War and Trials Fusion, it has earned the French company a massive $490 million during Q2 2014. That is an increase in revenue of a whopping 374 per cent compared the the same period last year!

Thanks, Joystiq.
