Brian Fargo, a pioneer of role-playing games and the creative mind behind games such as Fallout and Wasteland, is involved with a new Kickstarter fund.

Following on from the success of Tim Schafer's Double Fine Adventure, Fargo and company InXile Entertainment have called for investment through the Kickstarter crowd-funding scheme.

The project in question is Wasteland 2, the long-anticipated sequel to the genre-defining RPG Wasteland. Released in 1988, Wasteland had a profound effect on the genre, influencing many of today's most important developers.

Ray Muzyka from Bioware is quoted on the Kickstarter page as saying: "I'm personally a big fan of the Wasteland series from having played the original game in the late 80s; I've also always admired Brian Fargo's courage to experiment with new designs and game engines from my time working with him in the early days of BioWare when we worked with Interplay, and as a result I'm really looking forward to seeing the next game in the Wasteland series!"

Rob Pardo, executive vice-president of game design at Blizzard Entertainment, also added: "Brian was one of the pioneers for the computer RPG with games like Bard's Tale and Wasteland.  I would be very excited to see what Brian could achieve with a sequel to such a classic like the first Wasteland."

The original goal of the project was to raise $900,000 in a month, but Fargo's popularity has meant that an impressive $1,477,521 USD has already been raised and the fund still has over three weeks to attract further investment.

"From time to time the pace drops away, but for the most part this is an enthralling and engaging role-playing game."
