In an interview posted on CVG, Ninja Theory's Tameem Antoniades has discussed the portrayal of female characters in the series, and the fixation on chest sizes in video games.

"You can't use those cheap tricks to titillate people into wanting to buy your game," he explained. "If you're going to try and stimulate someone on different levels, there's better ways to do it."

He goes on to example the character of Trip in the company's Enslaved, and how audience took to her due to the studio's scripting of the in-game companion.

"She felt like someone who could be your girlfriend. That to me is more attractive than a prostitute walking around with a big gun.

"Not to demean prostitutes," he concluded. "It's a valid form of commerce."

It suggests the studio is concentrating on adding some depth to Dante's new cast come the remake and moulding character models into more realistic takes; whether that means it'll step away from the heavily-stylised cutscenes that marked the series as well is unknown.

Devil May Cry has introduced several female characters in its thirteen year history: most notably Dante's companion Trish, who went on to star in last year's Marvel Vs Capcom 3, and Lady, who appeared as a boss in Devil May Cry 3 and had a guest appearance in DMC4.

Ninja Theory's reinterpretation of the series is due later this year.
