Wolfenstein: The New Order saw release today, and we've been trying to play the PC version with a view to capturing screens and write how it holds up compared to the Xbox One and PS4 versions - with little luck.

It turns out that Wolfenstein: The New Order is nearly unplayable on our AMD card, and a quick search of the Internet reveals others with the same problems. PC Gamer writes they had problems getting the game to run at all (we did get it to run), and that the tutorial offered an abysmal 5 frames per sound.

By tweaking the setting to the lowest possible they achieved 10-25 frames per second, but the issues are recurring. Our issues are so severe that not even the introductory logo screens flow as they should. Updating the drivers to AMD Catalyst 14.4 helps, but it's still far from optimal.

You can achieve better results by experimenting with the settings (Gamereactor in Finland report no issues with the game), but for now we have to draw the conclusion that you're taking a risk buying the PC version of the game and that Machine Games need to sort this issue with a patch.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"Machine Games hasn't crafted the perfect shooter, but they've given it a good go and the results are decent."
