Ninja Theory's Tameem Antoniades has revealed to OXM that the studio has been on the receiving end of threats from fans outraged at the proposed changes to the art style of the forthcoming DmC: Devil May Cry.

The angry fans have made their feelings known via elaborate death threats, including: "death threats in comic book form" and "anti-DmC death metal songs!".

Discontent amongst fans stems from the graphical overall of series protagonist Dante, with his revamped image more westernised, casting him as a "rougher version" of his former self.

Tameem Antoniades told OXM that: "[Enslaved writer] Alex Garland warned me about it because he experienced a similar thing with 28 Days Later where people were upset that it didn't feature real zombies".

"So I was half prepared for it, although I have to say that it has been pretty eye opening to see some of the creative ways in which people have chosen to vent their hatred."

In the same article Antoniades moved to reassure fans of the series: "The Devil May Cry franchise is well established and much loved, so we want to keep the essence of what makes the series unique."

Take a look at some screens and make your own mind up.
