The Daily Mail has launched yet another scathing attack on gamers, this time accusing online players of the recently released Star Wars: The Old Republic of: "torturing and abusing a female 'slave' character with punches and an 'electric shock collar' - and enjoying it."

The "enjoying it" part is our favourite bit.

They go on to complain about some of the dialogue options featured in the Sith storyline. "Obey my every command" seems to have them in a particularly flustered mood.

They complain that: "The game has dialogue written specifically FOR players who choose to treat their companion like this - Vette continues to respond in a lifelike fashion after players have been torturing her for hours."

The Mail then rolled out quotes from a blog on Kotaku as an example of just how disgusting gamers are. Admittedly Kotaku's Mike Fahey did take things quite far, as his post reveals: "She comes complete with a convenient high voltage shock collar, allowing me to administer harsh punishment should she speak or act in a manner unbefitting her station."

Fahey goes on to reveal: "I torture her. I tease her. I belittle her in front of others. On one occasion I even make her watch as I have sexual relations with the wife of a slain enemy."

The Daily Mail will always jump at any opportunity to attack the games industry, and something like this was always going to get picked up. But one thing remains certain, with this kind of coverage, Daily Mail readers will be buying SWTOR in their droves.
