Batman's back, after Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios officially unveiled the next game in the Arkham series.

Batman: Arkham Knight is set to make an appearance on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year, and it marks the return of series creators Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham Origins was developed by Warner Bros. Montreal).

The game was briefly listed by High Street retailer GAME (but has since been removed), and details were grabbed from the listing. These details were later confirmed and elaborated on in official posts (this one was grabbed from the PS Blog):

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment are announcing Batman: Arkham Knight, Rocksteady Studios' conclusion to the series of award-winning titles Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Batman: Arkham Knight is based on DC Comics' core Batman license and is scheduled to be released worldwide on PS4 in 2014.

In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city that he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise.

We don't have a wealth of information on the game just yet, but the prospect of a drivable Batmobile is certainly an exciting part of the announcement. It's also interesting to note that we're looking at an "explosive finale" to the Arkham series, but it'll likely be some time before we get an idea of where Warner Bros. are going to take the series next.

REVIEW. Written by Ricardo C. Esteves

"The plot is virtually nonexistent, activities are repetitive and everything ends in an hour (two if you want to search for the extras)."
