Dean Hall set to leave Bohemia and DayZ this year

He's actually been there far longer than he first anticipated.

Dean "Rocket" Hall, the creator of the DayZ mod, and leader of the DayZ standalone team at Bohemia Interactive is looking to leave the company at the end of the year to set up his own studio in his native New Zealand (via GamesIndustry.biz).

Hall who originally only meant to stay in the Czech Republic for a few months has been there for a couple of years now he's looking forward to his challenge, even if he's far from done with DayZ.

"I would extend my involvement here as long as Bohemia wanted - needed - me. Originally I wasn't going to do this year, but it would be stupid not to, and it would be unfair to the community. I have to be on the project as long as it's important to. Whether that role is as the leader, whether that role is in a more creative sense... But at a certain point there will be diminishing returns."

Hall already has three game concepts he's considering.
