Independent developer Chris Gallizzi has began implementing unofficial Oculus Rift support for The Elder Scrolls Online.
Footage of his work-in-progress has been posted on YouTube, where he reveals that he got the game running using the tech at a respectable 65-75 frames-per-second (on minimal settings).
The demo on display was made using homegrown software, along with the Skyrim Oculus mod. Gallizzi told Polygon that it's not a full mod as player movement is still tied to the mouse, and that the high FPS requirements of VR gaming meant that the game's settings had to be turned right down in order to attain the required frame rate.
Gallizzi approached Bethesda requesting the company add in Oculus Rift support in August, but because there was no reply he took it upon himself to sign up for the beta and, upon gaining access, implemented it himself. He hopes that despite breaking the terms and conditions attached the closed beta, Bethesda sees the potential of bring VR functionality to the MMO.
We got stuck into the beta recently, and although we liked some of what we played, we're still not 100% convinced by The Elder Scrolls Online. You can read our Beta Impressions here.
