Shortly after our hopes were raised that we might be getting a next-gen version of Skyrim, those hopes were dashed and the appearance of PS4 and Xbox One listings for the game on Bethesda's website was explained away as a simple bug.

Bethesda's Pete Hines took to Twitter to dispel the rumours with the following explanation: "just a bug from a CMS update we did. 00/00/14 got entered in blank fields and caused this to appear. Sry for confusion.'

It followed an email that was sent to some members of the press which detailed a special announcement coming on January 12, which only raised hopes further that some kind of reveal was coming from the studio. This was described by Hines as just another "fan hoax" in a separate tweet.
