Studio MDHR is back and bringing us more Cuphead, with the small team announcing The Delicious Last Course during E3, a DLC that brings with it a new character and new mechanics with more bosses to fight. Maja Moldenhauer is the artist behind the hand-drawn style and also the producer of the game, and we talked to her at Gamelab about not only the DLC, but also the studio's next title.

When asked if she would like to apply the art style and the animation to a different type of game or genre, the answer was a plain "yes". She revealed to Gamereactor that the hand-drawn 2D animations will remain, but other things like the genre, the era, and the gameplay might change:

"We learned a lot through making this game in terms of where we were able to find efficiencies, where we didn't need to put a lot of effort and kind of waste the time or things like that. So we are really looking forward to the future, we are really looking forward to making our next game outside of this DLC. We are not going away anytime soon. Unfortunately, I can't develop too many details without it being a spoiler.

"We love 2D animation, we love hand-drawn animation and really crafting it in this kind of hand-drawn way. So, that's not going away anytime soon, but the genre, the era, the gameplay... you know, that may change."

The developer admitted that being difficult is "a trademark of Cuphead, that's for sure", but this could change as well in the future. "Whether or not our next game is as difficult is a little bit up in the air right now. We might see something different and refreshing come out of Studio MHDR".

Maja came to Barcelona to talk about the expansion and we asked her if it will be as tough, to which she said: "The DLC will live up to the main game. It's going to be a whole new world with difficult bosses. It will be just as challenging. That's not going away, for sure."

The Delicious Last Course introduces a new playable character that Moldenhauer loves too. "I am so excited about Ms Chalice. I constantly self-proclaim myself as being Ms Chalice, I am the living form of Ms Chalice," she told us at Gamelab. "She is our heroine in this DLC package, she comes to us with a whole new set of physics and mechanics and gameplay."

"She has a double jump, so that's kind of an example of how she is gonna play a little bit differently. And the really neat thing is that she also comes with new charms and weapons and you can replay the main game with Chalice. So, even though if you've played the game and you beat it, you can re-experience it with a whole new set of mechanics and a different character. That is something that we are excited about".

You can watch the interview with Maja Moldenhauer below. How hyped are you for the DLC?
